Overall, another nice addition to the Calphalon collection at my house.
I'm disappointed by the size of the handle and the placement of the rivets. I read another review about the rivets, but unfortunately I read it after I'd already purchased it. The rivets definitely get in the way and collect pieces of food. However, it isn't bad enough for me to return it. Just a word of warning for others.
Second, the handle is just plain small. I don't have big hands... This handle just doesn't provide me the security I'm looking for when I'm transferring water from the sink to the stove, for instance.
Lastly and probably unrelated to the manufacturer and more the seller - the condition of the rim was less than stellar. This product almost seemed used because there are visible pits in the rim of the pan. Again, I really wanted this pan and am just a bit too lazy to bother sending it back over imperfections that won't affect my food.

I have more than a few Caphalon pots and pans in my cookware group ... This one is pretty, but not very efficient. Likely due to shape, since it has less pan bottom on the stove burner than other designs of the same capacity, but it takes WAAAYYY to long to bring a half pot of water to boil (that's even with using the very high quality glass lid on the pot).
I'm a bit disappointed with this one. First time I've said that about a Caphalon product. I'm still giving it a 3 since it maintained a boil (with lid) on very low heat. It's just that attaining the boil is not up to the Caphalon standards I'm used to.

I've owned this piece for about 3 or 4 years now and it has had plenty of use. Everything from cooking pasta for one to making a batch of sausage gravy, tomato sauce, or a larger amount of rice, and the lid is heavy enough so you can braise or stew in it. The tri-ply construction means no hot spots, and it's easy to clean in the dishwasher (unlike anodized cookware which I'll never buy again). Where it really shines though is sauce making. The sloped sides make it easier to get a whisk into every part of the pan. The chef's skillet is much better at this than a traditional saucepan.

I own almost the entire tri-ply line by Calphalon. This is a great addition to add to my collection. I use this pan primarily for risotto and polenta (which require constant stirring) and this does the job. The sloped sides make a somewhat tiresome task of getting food out of the corners of a straight-sided saucepan a heck of a lot easier. Believe me, I've made both risotto and polenta in my 4 1/2qt. and it was a chore. Like the rest of the pieces, this pan has a full aluminum core up the sides to ensure overall even heating. It cleans beautifully (use some Barkeeper's Friend for those stubborn hard water stains) and it will stay as gleaming as when you took it out of the box. After this piece I still yearn for the new handled stir-fry pan, the 5qt. saute (in my opinion, the holy grail of the tri-ply line), and possibly the 8qt. stockpot for bigger jobs. This pan, and this whole line of cookware, just cannot be beat in beauty, function, and price.

I received this as a Christmas gift several years ago and love it as much now as I did when it was new. It has nice high sides and rounded corners so even large whisks fit nicely. Making sauces in this is so much easier than my saucepans with squared corners! It's also great for risotto.
The only thing I don't like about it is the handle. It's a little too skinny and the pan feels unbalanced when it's full. For me it's not a huge negative, as I don't often have occasion to take it off the stove until it's empty. It's a good pan for the price - other high end brands can run up to $300.
